Falling UP with(out) The Fringe began in 2023 as an unofficial, non-Edinburgh Festival affiliated series of creative interventions. These ranged from poetry reading, performances, pop-up displays and photography on an art trail in Edinburgh across different landmarks. The idea was to informally drop into public spaces whilst The Fringe festivities occurred in parallel around us. Ownership of cultural festivities could therefore be shared outwith the exclusivity of officially sanctioned Fringe events. This meant that we were able to leave an ephemeral creative footprint through spontaneous action. We flexibly enabled each participant to generate responses to, and support each other's creative ideas in the moment. This project was designed to be collaboratively planned and co-led. Digital documentation of its activities was shared amongst participants as individuals chose moments of the activity's progress to record for discursive reflection afterwards.
